Title
Keris dalam dunia Melayu = Keris in the Malay world
Description
The keris is a kind of Malay weapon believed to date back more than seven centuries. It is thought to have originated in the Malay Archipelago, and is found only there, in particular in Malaysia and Indonesia. The keris is regarded as a precious cultural heritage of Malay race, having strong associations with heroism and mysticism, and figuring prominently in Malay legends and Malay history. Until today the keris has been, and remains a symbol of the sovereign power of Malay rulers, besides reflecting great refinement of craftsmanship. The highly skilled makers of kerises are held in honour and are themselves as essential part of the mystique and tradition of the keris.
